At noon we piled onto a party bus and took off on our tour of local San Diego breweries. We started at Ballast Point, continued to Lost Abbey, and wrapped up the day at Green Flash. By the end of the day, we were all slightly tipsy and starving for cake. This bad boy didn’t disappoint.
I used a box of chocolate cake mix and this peanut butter frosting recipe. While I don’t mind cutting corners with cake mix, you’ll NEVER catch me using store-bought frosting. Have you tasted that stuff!? No thanks!
Here’s a breakdown of the construction. The one thing not pictured is that I cut two Reece’s cups into sixths and stuck the triangles in the gaps around the edges. This helped me get a nice smooth side that fully disguised the inner naughtiness.
I wish I could have captured a photo of a slice, but people were hungry and asking for their patience might have meant a fork to the eye. It’s all fun and games until someone has to wait to dig into their Reece’s cake- then it can get ugly!
But it really was as good as it looks, and you should totally make it. Like now. Because it’s Tuesday, and why not?! You deserve it.
