Day 1: Great Success!

Well friends, we officially have day one in the books. Being the free spirits we are, I booked our hotel en route.  We ended up getting a great deal on a the Omni in the French Quarter.  I think it was my first time staying at an Omni, and I was impressed with the mix of character and luxury in the beautiful old building.  Everywhere you looked there was white marble, fresh flowers, and beautiful old brass.  Plus the rooftop area had a great view of the city.  One night there really wasn’t enough.

Jason made dinner reservations practically across the street at a little joint called Nola.  I didn’t know until we sat down that it’s one of Emeril’s restaurants.  The food was delish, and the service was some of the best we’ve ever had.  Jason had the crab cake, pork chop, and their signature Aviation cocktail.  I had the baby green salad and drum (a white fish I’d never tried before).  I also had the most delicious cosmopolitan I’ve ever had (I think the secret is their pineapple-infused vodka!)  It was a really enjoyable dinner and the perfect way to celebrate everything we’ve accomplished thus far.

After dinner, we took a quick stroll down Bourbon Street.  It was hopping’!  We passed on the partying, though, and headed home for some rest.

This wasn’t my first time in New Orleans, but it was my first time there as an adult.  I was really struck by the beauty of the French Quarter.  The people were welcoming, and our brief stay really made me want to spend more time there soaking in the culture.  I was disappointed to have to leave so soon.
