Weekend Get-Away: Las Vegas

I’m so excited!  We’re off to Vegas today to meet up with some of my friends from Atlanta.  It’s been almost a month since we left and I miss my friends and family there more everyday, so the chance to see a familiar face has me sporting a permagrin.

When I’ve been in Vegas with Jason in the past, it’s always been to visit him during the World Series of Poker.  His annual routine is to rent a big house with a bunch of friends, share a few rental cars, and try to live as normally as possible for those six weeks. “Living normally” sometimes means gambling until five AM and stopping by the Grand Luxe Cafe (open 24 hours) before crawling into bed at seven.  But other times it means getting together with other poker players for a cookout,  game night, or casual game of  basketball.  There are always other people around, and it feels a lot like a reality TV show that failed due to lack of drama.  It’s fun, but in a house full of men, it’s also a lot of dishes for me to do.

And that’s why I’m excited that this trip will be different.  We’re staying in a hotel.  There’s an even male:female ratio (as opposed to anything poker-related, where you couldn’t find a second x chromosome to save your life).  This is a bona-fide vacation.  And while we travel a lot, a trip without a poker tournament is pretty rare.  It’s something to get excited about- especially on the heels of our big move.

I can’t wait to throw some final things in my bag and hit the road!  But first, a pina colada full day’s work.

About how bout some cake

I'm a 20-something woman with an insatiable thirst for adventure. I love red wine, chocolate cake, and comments from my lovely readers.
