Free Crappy Portraits

Have you heard of  It’s totally my favorite thing this week.

If you’re too lazy to check it out for yourself, I’ll go ahead and tell you that its exactly what you think it would be, plus a really fantastic sense of humor.  I fell instantly in love.  Not with the art, obviously, since most of the artists’ skills hover around first grade level. I just felt like these were my people and I strongly wanted to become a part of it, so I emailed them asking if I could draw some crappy portraits for them.

While I anxiously awaited a reply, I thought I’d blow the cobwebs off my colored pencil skills with a warm-up: my own family.  And that’s how this happened:

I’m sorry guys. I’m especially sorry to Clemson and Marley, who were forgotten omitted from the photo for artistic purposes.

What’s really hilarious is that Jason saw this drawing laying around my office and complimented it.  Like, seriously.  So as soon as he left town, I drew him this:

This is Edgar.  He was Jason’s most beloved cat growing up.  It doesn’t look anything like the picture I was drawing from, but hey- I tried.  I’m going to surprise him with it when he gets home.  I’m pretty much sure he never reads my blog, so I’m not worried about ruining the surprise.

Then FINALLY (ok, like 3 days later) I got an email from with an assignment!  It’s a totally awesome one, too.  It’s a couple who was on the reality TV show Bridezillas!  And I’m like 90% sure I saw their episode.  They’re very crass- in the episode, I remember them getting hammered and using loud, colorful language.  It’s a photo booth photo from their wedding, and he’s holding a sign that says “Well, I’m forever your fighting partner Feb-19-2011”.  She’s holding a solo cup.

Here’s what they’re getting:

Like I said- favorite thing of the week.

What is in my right hand (I nervously ask)?

EDGAR! You would have loved him 🙂 He could rarely actually sit like that because his poor two little front legs (ok maybe they weren’t that little..) couldn’t support the weight. Photos do not do him justice.
