Stitch Fix

These days, why spend an afternoon lugging around shopping bags?  Why not have great stuff delivered to your door?

Stitch Fix is a personal shopping service that picks five different items and sends them to your home so that you can try them on and see how they fit with your existing wardrobe.  When you register, you take a fairly extensive quiz to help define your style and the types of items you’d like to receive.  You’re just billed for the things you keep- there is a $20 charge for each shipment, but if you keep any of the items, that $20 is credited towards your purchase.

Since it’s a new company that’s still beta testing, I spent a couple of months on the waiting list before being notified that my first shipment was on its way.

I was giddy with excitement when I unwrapped the package.  It had a top, a dress, a pair of pants, a blazer, and earrings.  They all fit and were within the price range I’d requested, but most of them went back because they were either unflattering or just not great enough to keep.  One really nice touch is that they provide a couple of styling suggestions for each piece: a God-send for someone like me.

Earrings: Cute, but not cute enough to keep.

Cute blue skinnies: Not flattering on me… at all…

A cute dress that would have looked great with some alteration.

A funky top that I almost kept, but ended up sending back because it just didn’t do me any favors.

I hoped to fall in love with just one piece in the shipment, and the blazer was it.  It’s exactly the kind of piece my closet was lacking.  I loved the double lapel, giving it some interest even though it’s a neutral color.  Even the price was perfect!  I wore it twice this past weekend- to the movies with my girlfriends and to dinner with my man.  I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it as the nights get cooler.

Here’s a complete list of the items with their labels and prices-

As you can see, everything was reasonably priced and I was pleased with the quality.  If you buy everything, you get 25% off!  It was probably the best shopping experience I’ve ever had, and I have even higher hopes for my next shipment since they’ll take my feedback from shipment #1 into consideration.

Such a cool idea! I’ve heard of a few other bloggers using this as well. I think the greatest benefit is definitely being able to try things on at home with other pieces you already own. So many times when I’m shopping I THINK something will look great with a piece I already have, only to discover that it looks reallllyyyyy crappy once I get the item home. I’m going to have to try this out!

This sounds like a smart idea- I’d be down to try it. My problem is things always end up not fitting me or looking weird if I can’t try them on before purchasing- so this is a smart idea!

    • The only thing you have to lose is $20! That’s basically what you’d pay for shipping both ways on a normal purchase, and with this you get 5 things! I think it’s a great deal. Let me know if you sign up 🙂

  3. Wow, probably shouldn’t have read this post because now I want to sign up for this site (which wouldn’t help my shopping addiction). What a fun way to really try before you buy in the comfort of your own home where you can visibly see how the pieces will fit (or not fit) into your wardrobe. I LOVE the blazer on you, glad you chose to keep it. PS-totally want to watch clueless now.

    • Thanks! It’s something I never would have picked out for myself- that’s why I need the help of a stylist! The nice thing about this service is that you can choose when you get “your fix” so if you only want one per season or every other month, you can schedule it that way instead of monthly.

I signed up about 2 seconds after reading this post, and put your blog as my referral source lol!! Best idea ever! Also love the Clueless picture 🙂

  5. Wow this is such a neat idea! Sadly, I have enough of an online shopping problem as it is, so I’d best avoid this since I know it’s dangerous! But I’ll gladly live vicarious through your purchases! I hope you share what comes in your second shipment. Gorgeous blazer by the way, it was a wise choice to keep!
