My First Outfit Post

Let’s venture into some uncharted territory, shall we?  This is my first outfit post- partly because walking my boyfriend through taking these photos with my DSLR is on par with teaching a chipmunk math (just kidding, honey- you did a great job!), and partly because I spend most of my days in yoga pants.  But it’s good to step out of your comfort zone every now and then, so here we go.

Before we proceed, I should probably mention that I am NOT a fashionista, but one of my New Years Resolutions for 2012 was to make more of an effort.  While I’m not claiming total victory over my frumpiness, I think it’s fair to say I’ve come a long way.  However, the point of this post is to let you be the judge.

Top: Express ($10 on black Friday!)
Pants & Shoes: Target
Watch: Michael Kors
Clutch: Tory Burch
Necklace: Peppermint Lollipops

This is an outfit I chose for date night.  It’s actually a bit on the casual end, as I usually gravitate towards dresses for dates.  Before our urban cowboy steakhouse dinner, we trotted over to a grand opening party for some bubbly and hors d’oeuvres.  The girls who run the tanning salon are so incredibly amazing, I know this new location is going to be a success (anyone in San Diego should go check them out immediately- their prices are fantastic and they’re VERY professional!).

What I love about this outfit is that it brings together all my favorite pieces in gold.  My Michael Kors watch, my Tory Burch purse, and this awesome necklace I just ordered from  an Etsy shop called Peppermint Lollipops.  At first I was afraid that I’d feel like a dog in a choke chain wearing such a heavy necklace, but it’s much lighter than it looks.  It’s definitely going to be my go-to for the holiday season since it goes with pretty much everything!  Jenny, who owns the shop, was a real delight to work with and she’s offering 20% off to anyone who likes her shop on Facebook, so go check it out!  Plus, we’re partnering up for a giveaway soon so keep your eyes out for that.

So, what do you think?  Am I still a fashion flop?  You can be honest- it won’t hurt my feelings!

  1. The clutch and watch are fab, not a big fan of the pants but you were them really well. Outfit-wise, good job. Just a couple pointers on the pics – not sure if you were intending on using the pics for an outfit post so you may know this stuff already. Sweep your hair to one side or wear it up. Hair’s gorgeous, but it’s covering up the top too much. The background is too cluttered and distracting. Also, if possible take the pics in natural light… I avoid flash as much as possible. Hope this helps!

And to think once you told us you weren’t into fashion- but this looks great! That top is so pretty for a fun night out.

You go, lady! I’m so glad you’re venturing into outfit post territory. I was nervous about doing it, too but it’s actually kind of fun and helps me more my closet more than I would otherwise. Love the sequined top!

  4. Such a great first outfit post. You should be proud of yourself! I had the pictures and post waiting for 2 weeks before I was brave enough to post my first outfit. Perfect date night outfit! xo

I love your sequin top! It looks great against the gold accents in your jewelry and purse. Even though outfits mostly dominate my blog, I felt so awkward starting out. I’m certainly no fashionista, but like Alyssa mentioned it’s helped my approach my closet differently. I’m having a great time mixing pieces I would have never worn before. Keep it up!

  16. Yay!!! Beyond excited to see you doing outfit posts. I love this look for date night (and don’t try to tell us you aren’t a fashionista because you look fabulous). I actually have that same top from Express and wear it all the time. It’s perfect paired with skinny jeans for a night out.
