An Insider’s Guide to New York City

Hi all! Its Jordan back again from Meet Me In Paradise. I’m here to offer some insider’s tips for visiting New York City. Every time I try to tell people where to go while visiting, I find it extremely overwhelming. While Manhattan is a very small island, it has more things packed into it then you can imagine. The possibilities are truly endless. If any of you west coasters want to trade in your palm trees for sky scrapers and head to New York, here are my “best of”‘s and some advice for your time in the Big Apple.

viewIf you are looking for one of the best views if Manhattan you will ever see, you need to go to Rockefeller center. The “Top of the Rock” is one of those places that I wish I could go to every day, just to sit there and enjoy the view. On the north side there is a stunning view of Central Park and on the south side there is lower Manhattan where you can see the Empire State Building, the freedom tower, and in the winter the New Years ball in Times Square. To both sides is water. It is so relaxing and scenic, it’s crazy to think you can see something that beautiful in this concrete jungle. [Ps- This view is way better than the view from the Empire State Building!]photo-4

foodThis is up for debate, depending on what you’re in the mood for. But there’s one food truck that I can’t resist. The Wafels and Dinges truck. This is more of a dessert truck but specializes in both savory and sweet waffles straight from Belgium. I am not even a fan of waffles, they are actually one of my least favorite breakfast foods. But this is no ordinary waffle… this Belgium chocolatey mix of perfection can turn anybody into a waffle lover. I don’t really buy many foods off of trucks, nor would I ever think to wait in a serious line for it, but it is worth the wait. photo-5

barsWell this is a tough one. There are so many bars in Manhattan I can’t even think of one specifically. This depends on what you are into. There are clubs that stay open 24 hours a day, rooftop lounges and dive bars at every corner. I prefer bars with good music and a relaxed feel… and I always love a great view.

My go-to bar this summer was the Beekman Beer Garden. This place has pretty much everything I am looking for. Located at the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan, it is right on the water with a view of Brooklyn and the bridge. My favorite Rooftop bars of all time are Ink48 and 230 Fifth. They both offer stunning views, a chic upscale feel and guaranteed good time. photo-6

shoppnigThree words. Saks. Fifth. Avenue. The Saks Fifth Avenue. I am obsessed with this store. You can find good shopping basically anywhere in Manhattan, but the Saks is like the mothership. It has everything you could possibly need. From Dior, to Chanel, to Christian Louboutin, it’s anyones idea of heaven. Just steer clear of this place during the holidays.

tipsThese days, people never leave their homes without their cell phone, and lets face it, there’s an app for everything. If you are traveling to NYC, make sure to download these apps and you won’t go wrong. NYC Way has everything you could possibly need – lists of restaurants, bars, subways, where to get wifi, where to go shopping, local weather, etc. Each app has its perks and even being a local, I use them all the time. AppsWhat are your favorite things to do in New York?
