Prague from the Vltava

RiverTour1The Vltava, the Czech Republic’s longest river, snakes its way through the center of Prague.  I was finally able to lure J out of the hotel room for a cozy river tour, complete with cake and hot wine.

The guide’s accent was almost incoherently thick, so I missed a lot of the information, but the sights alone made the hour tour worth it.

The tour departed from beneath the Charles Bridge, which is where this photo was taken (left).

One thing I did manage to decipher is that the river flooded in 2002- and I mean flooded BIG TIME.  The arches of the Charles Bridge were nearly covered by water, and it reached the first-story windows pictured above.  I’m sure it was a total nightmare.

After the tour, we stopped at a nearby restaurant (pictured, left) which had been recommended to us by the hotel concierge.  Not only was the restaurant’s ambiance very nice, but we sat right against the window and enjoyed fabulous views of the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle.

Jason ordered crispy duck, a classic Czech dish, while I played it safe with salmon and potatoes.  RiverTour9 RiverTour10

Both were fabulous; we agreed that it was the best meal we’d had in ages.  Unfortunately, we arrived only 30 minutes before the restaurant closed (between lunch and dinner) so we skipped apps and dessert out of courtesy.  I’m quite certain we missed out, and I’m tempted to return for a proper 3 course meal.  So good!

The sun was just setting over the Vltava as we left, offering a romantic ending to the day.  I don’t think it gets any better than this.

About how bout some cake

I'm a 20-something woman with an insatiable thirst for adventure. I love red wine, chocolate cake, and comments from my lovely readers.

    Love your posts about this!

  6. Happy you got to explore and enjoy the day with your love 🙂 I took a river tour when I was in Paris and loved seeing all of the sights from the water. It’s a nice alternative vantage point (and it’s so relaxing) not to mention you don’t have to walk everywhere! Your salmon looks like it was incredible.
